After applying to a company and accepting, the student presents the student and institutional CEECs to the HTE as well as the audit and approval internship plan. MOAs are exchanged between the company and the department, which will then be forwarded to the Office of the University Legal Counsel (OULC) for verification before all parties finally sign the agreements. Following the mandatory implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) in enterprise training activities (OJT), the DLSU followed the Memorandum of Understanding shortly thereafter. CHED defines OJT or internship as a practical application of classroom learning in real-world regular work environments. The agreement also stipulates that students must be monitored by both the HTE and the DLSU during their OJT period to ensure the safety of students. Once a student has completed their OJT hours, the university must conduct a post-training check and assessment of the student`s tasks, the general program and the HTE. The coordinator of the internship, Atty. Mike David reveals that the university has already received the ched memorandum at the end of January. The OULC then developed guidelines and models for the necessary procedures. Mariano believes, however, that the new ched memorandum does not affect the practical application procedures of his department.
However, he shares the same sentiments as Piocos and says that “the new process seems more complicated because the draft contracts are longer and more cumbersome, some of which can be negotiated, and the contracts must be notarized.” He also stresses that students still have to insure the primary “institutional” CEECs themselves, which he believes should be the primary responsibility of the university, the college or their respective departments. Asked how the literature department dealt with these issues, Piocos said the MOA process was carefully learned to ensure a safe internship for students. Other sites on campus have also been included as options for the OJT, and students can still “gain the same experience as if they were leaving for an off-campus internship.” But Karen hit another wall when she discovered the following term that a new MOA was needed.
